How to learn English in 30 days?

Learning a language is a tough job. There are many things to learn & master which would take years of active practice but If you had only 30 days & you wanted to intensively study English every single day, here are some tips.

Improve your vocabulary

Knowing a lot of vocabulary is never a bad thing although in 30 days you want to focus on words you encounter the most. You can create lists or cards whenever you bump into a new word. I would suggest doing it with pen & paper and sticking it in places you see it the most.

Just learning is not enough, you have to be able to retain them & the best way to do so is using what you learn. Making sentences, imagining the situations where you can use these new words & paying attention while reading or watching English content are some examples.

Consume Media

There is an endless amount of different content at your disposal for free or minimal cost that you can use to increase your knowledge. Each medium will help you in different ways.

Movies are good because even if you don’t understand everything being said, you can guess from people’s actions. If you listen to podcasts, try to find some that are conversation based for instance a host interviewing a guest.

I suggest to stay away from the news mostly because people in real world don’t communicate the way it’s portrayed in news programs.

Start thinking in English

In order to effortlessly speak English, you need to be able to stop translating & instead speak directly in English. One practice could be to think in English. When we are thinking for the most part we are speaking to ourselves in our brains.

You can start with easy sentences like : “I have to go shopping tomorrow after work” or “Today was a boring day”. You can always check the words you do not yet know or learn new phrases.

Start speaking in English

No matter how much time you spend on learning & practicing, you will need to speak up & put into action what you learned. If you are a beginner it might be a challenge but you can always get better.

There are many meet-ups you can attend both virtually & physically.

Conclusion

As I said earlier, 30 days is not enough to learn everything about English but you certainly can make progress. Please let us know if you tried any of these tips & it worked for you or not. If you have your ideas, I would love to hear them. Good luck!
